The Department of Telecommunication was started in the year 1992-93.The department is presently headed by Dr. S. Shanthala, who is supported by a team of qualified and dedicated staff members.

On the forefront of development and with the advent of technological revolution and quantum development in the field of electronics and communication due to myriad complexities of the e-world it was inevitable for the evolution of another field to make a distinct identity of its own. Thus the ball of development was set into motion and the telecommunication field gradually assumed a role of pre-eminence which is shared by few other engineering disciplines in the modern world.

The department ,established in the year 1992 emphasized in providing quality education with the practical aspects of learning given ample importance. The department encourages tech-savvy projects, which whet the students appetite for technical exploration. The excellent faculty and staff have been instrumental in ensuring that the students are well prepared for the corporate world.

Activities and Training

Students are exposed to corporate workshops through different training workshops and seminars organized by the department. A workshop on VHDL and VLSI design was conducted on a national level by the CMR automation. Regular seminars are also being conducted in the college by persons from some of the prestigious institutes such as IISC and private companies such as Phillips, Motorola, United Technology (Embedded technology, CDMA).

Some of the prestigious projects done by the students of telecommunication department are as follows:-

1. Controller for surveillance Radar

2. Hardware implementation of two dimensional IDCT using FPGA (BPL)

3. Space craft thermal and optical control system stimulator (ISRO)

4. Monitor and control of SR 256L satellite modem (BEL)

5. Study and interfacing of FFSK synchronize modem with an asynchronous data
input/output (CAIR)

6. TV transmission through optical fiber (ITI)

7.Simulation of RAKE receiver for CDMA systems (NAL)

8. Geometric correction of satellite images (ISRO)
