The Department of Engineering Physics came into existence along with the establishment of the institution in the year 1979.The department is currently headed by Dr. S.P.Basavaraju, who is assisted by a team of well qualified and dedicated staff members.

The Physics department has a staff of 6 members of which 2 members have more than 20 years of teaching experience and 4 members have more than 10 years of teaching experience. The students are given individual attention in the lab classes. The results in both theory and practical examinations have been consistently good.

Dr.S.P.Basavaraju ,Head of the department ,has been rendering a special service to the student community of the university since 15 years by his flare for writing.
He has brought out 3 books so far:
1.A detailed text book of Engineering Physics.
2.A detailed text book of Engineering Physics Practicals.
3.A text book of Fields and Waves.
He has contributed to the Kannada Encyclopedia of Mysore University with his articles on Fermat's Principle of Least Action and on Powell the Nobel laureate. He has also contributed 2 popular science articles in Kannada to Janapriya Vignana of Bangalore University.
